National Agents Alliance Volunteers at NDI ‘Feed the Hunger’ Pack-A-Thon Event

BURLINGTON, N.C. – National Agents Alliance staff members partnered with New Directions International and Loaves & Fishes during a “Feed the Hunger Pack-A-Thon” at Holly Hill Mall and Business Center on Dec. 10 to help provide non-perishable food for local children and package nutritious food that will wind up feeding children overseas. The event was hosted by the mall and Westside Fellowship.

New Directions International, a non-profit organization based out of Alamance County which started helping those in need in 1968, helps feed more than 110,000 people annually. More than 5,000 children in places like Haiti and Jamaica are fed daily thanks to the efforts of NDI.

NDI reported that the event yielded 114,048 packed meals to be shipped overseas. A total of 1,500 pounds of canned goods were also collected for distribution in Alamance County. The event’s efforts will provide enough food to feed 456 children a meal per day for an entire school year.

“We’ve maintained that we are always going to make a difference for other people outside of making money and having fun,” National Agents Alliance President and Chief Executive Officer Andy Albright said. “This is just another example of that and I am so proud of our team for taking the time to do something small that makes such a huge impact in the world for others. We love what New Directions International does and we love supporting Loaves and Fishes too. When you consider that you are helping feed more than 100,000 people in need that’s a big deal.”

By the end of 2011, more than 6,000 Pack-A-Thon volunteers will have packed 1.5 million meals for at-risk children in five countries. NDI has plans to expand its outreach into three more countries.

Volunteers worked for at least two hours on Dec. 9-10 at the event. Feed the Hunger seeks to feed the physical, educational and spiritual hunger in at-risk children overseas. Loaves & Fishes is committed to feeding hungry families in Alamance County and surrounding counties. Both organizations came together – along with National Agents Alliance – during the Christmas season to fight hunger and had help from numerous volunteers. The nourishing meals consisted of four ingredients and were packaged to be shipped overseas.
